How it works

Anatomy of an off-grid build.

Power from the sun, water from the ground, waste handled on site. Every system is drawn for the parcel it goes on.

Fig. 01 — Water

Well & water table

We site the bore, drill through caliche and sandstone to the aquifer, case it, and set a submersible pump.

Fig. 02 — Power

Array & battery bank

Panels sized to your real loads charge a battery bank through a controller — no utility connection required.

Fig. 03 — Waste

Septic & leach field

Tank and drain field designed around your soil — conventional or alternative, whatever the percolation calls for.

We also handle

The land work that makes it possible.

Before the panels go up and the rig rolls in, the site has to be ready. We do that part too.

Who We Are

Off-grid power, done right.

We've been doing this a long time. We know what works, what doesn't, and how to keep it simple.

We started Off Grid Land Development because we were tired of seeing people get sold oversized systems, cheap equipment, and zero support after the sale. We've been building off-grid in New Mexico for over 10 years — drilling wells, putting in septic, wiring up solar arrays — in the heat, the cold, and everything in between.

We're not a warehouse with a website. We're a small New Mexico crew that picks up the phone, walks the property with you, and stays on the job until it works. We design every system for the parcel it's going on — not from a catalog, not by formula.

If something goes wrong at 10pm on a Saturday, you call us. Not a call center — us. That's how this works.

10 Years on NM Land

Solar arrays, well drilling, septic — we've installed all of it across New Mexico's high desert, mountain country, and everything between. We know what holds up against caliche, hard freezes, and 60 mph wind because we've put it there.

We Drive to You

Drill rigs, excavators, install crews — we mobilize to every county in New Mexico, including the remote parcels other contractors won't reach. Raw land, no address, no problem.

We Don't Disappear

Your system is yours for decades, and we're the ones you call when something acts up years from now. Not a call center. Us. We service every install across all 33 NM counties.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about off-grid solar systems.

We work statewide — all of New Mexico. For well drilling specifically, travel logistics can affect scheduling on remote sites, but we still say yes to the trip.

Most residential off-grid systems are installed in 2–5 days on site, after an initial site visit and design approval. Permitting timelines vary by county.

Our rig handles typical residential depths in New Mexico. On the quote request, tell us what you know about neighboring wells or the water table and we’ll confirm feasibility before scheduling.

With a battery bank and a properly sized pump controller, yes. For livestock-only setups, we often skip the battery and pump to a storage tank during daylight hours — a simpler, cheaper rig for the same outcome.

Yes. We produce permit-ready documentation and coordinate with the inspector. We’ll tell you up-front what the permitting timeline looks like for your county.

Free. Fill out the form or call us and we’ll give you a walkthrough. If the job needs a site visit to price accurately, we’ll schedule one.

No — septic is one of our four headline services. We can install septic alongside the well and solar in one mobilization.

Yes. Most of our work is on raw land. We bring water, power, and waste to parcels that have none — well drilling, off-grid solar, septic, all under one contractor.
